(Opinion) Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg served four years in the Biden administration. During his term, we saw a train derailment disaster in East Palestine that was totally mismanaged. Buttigieg did not visit the site for several weeks which led people to believe that no one cared or was going to help. We also came dangerously close to having a rail strike which would have crippled our economy.

Buttigieg’s predecessor, Sean Duffy, has been tasked with taking a jackhammer to the department. Duffy is seeing first-hand what a mess Pete left behind because of his failed leadership.
Duffy is removing the DEI policies from the department and addressing the wasteful spending. Unfortunately, this year we’ve had several aviation accidents inside and outside the US. Buttigieg went after the new Secretary on the X platform.

This did not sit well with Duffy who responded to Buttigieg’s post saying,

“Mayor Pete failed for four years to address the air traffic controller shortage and upgrade our outdated, World War II-era air traffic control system. In less than four weeks, we have already begun the process and are engaging the smartest minds in the entire world.
Here’s the truth: the FAA alone has a staggering 45,000 employees. Less than 400 were let go, and they were all probationary, meaning they had been hired less than a year ago. Zero air traffic controllers and critical safety personnel were let go.
Mayor Pete chose to use this amazing department—that is so critical to America’s success—as a slush fund for the green new scam and environmental justice nonsense. Not to mention that over 90% of the workforce under his leadership were working from home – including him. The building was empty!
When we finally get a full accounting of his mismanagement, I look forward to hearing from him.
In the meantime, I will not rest until I return the Department of Transportation and its incredible employees to its mission of efficiency and safety.”

“Great to see Secretary Sean Duffy taking action on the air traffic controller shortage and outdated system, a problem Mayor Pete failed to address in four years.
This is what real leadership looks like, tackling tough issues head-on and bringing in the best minds to find solutions, not just talking about it like Mayor Pete did for years.
Now it’s time for transparency from Mayor Pete, instead of just asking questions, he should be providing answers on his own failed record on this issue.”

Yes, we are seeing real leadership on display from Secretary Duffy. What a breath of fresh air. I know we can count on Duffy help make the Department of Transportation run efficiently and will hold the people who work there accountable.
